Kaikoura was hit by a very severe earthquake - 7.8 magnitude - on the 14th of November 2016. It caused significant damage to many parts of the area's infrastructure, particularly State Highway One (SH1), the road that connects Kaikoura to Blenheim in the north and Christchurch to the south.
Luckily, Hapuku Lodge + Tree Houses had no structural damage, but did have numerous minor plaster cracks. We have repaired and repainted these and are now fully operational.

WE ARE OPEN AND DELIGHTED TO BE IN POSITION TO AGAIN WELCOME GUESTS!

Our guests should note that road access to Kaikoura continues to be restricted. The "Inland Road" route is open as of December 19, 2016.
Highway One (SH1) between Kaikoura and Christchurch is now open.
